Getting Started

How do I create a new song?

Click the “+” button in the Songs tab to create a new entry. Then switch to edit mode to enter your ChordPro content.​

How do I open and edit a song?

Select a song from your library. Use the edit toggle to switch between preview and the ChordPro editor.

How can I search or filter songs?

Use the search field above the song list. You can filter by title, artist, and rating.

Can I organize or hide songs?

Yes. You can archive songs to hide them from your main list without deleting them.

What is ChordPro and how does it work?

ChordPro is a text format where chords are placed in brackets like [C]. Songbook Buddy automatically renders this into a clean, readable layout.

Does the app support auto-save?

Yes. Changes are saved automatically based on your auto-save settings in Preferences.

How can I transpose songs?

Use the transpose controls to shift the key in semitone steps. This affects display and playback, not the original source unless saved.

Can I customize chord diagrams?

Yes. You can choose different fingerings and assign them to your song. These settings are saved per song.

Which instruments are supported?

Chord diagrams are available for guitar, ukulele, and piano.

Does the app support live performance mode?

Yes. Theater Mode provides a distraction-free layout optimized for live performance.

Can I auto-scroll songs during playback?

Yes. Playback mode includes auto-scrolling, which is ideal for performing. You can also quickly change the position within the song whilst it is playing. Playback will automatically resume from the new position.

How does cloud sync work?

When enabled, your songs are stored locally on your device and synchronized with your cloud account. Changes are automatically synced across your devices.

Do I need an account for sync?

Yes. Cloud sync requires a free account. If sync is not configured, your library remains local on your device.

How often does sync happen?

Sync runs automatically based on your settings. You can also trigger a manual sync at any time.

Can I use the app without sync?

Yes. Songbook Buddy works fully offline. Sync is optional.

What is a “Complete Resync”?

Complete Resync rebuilds the cloud data from your current device. It deletes the cloud library and uploads your local data again. Only use this if you have sync issues.

Will I lose data during sync?

Normally no. However, a Complete Resync can overwrite cloud data. Always make a backup before using it.

Which file formats can I import?

You can import common ChordPro formats such as .cho, .chordpro, .txt, and .pro files. You also can import Word, ODF word PDF Files, when they contain Lyrics with Chords above Lyrics and simple layout. The result depends on the type of source

Can I import multiple songs at once?

Yes. You can import entire folders or ZIP archives containing multiple songs.

Can I export songs as PDF?

Yes. Use the print function to generate PDFs with customizable layout options.

How do I back up my data?

Use the backup feature in Preferences to create a safe copy of your database.

How can I report a bug?

Use “Help → Send bug report”. The app will prepare an email with diagnostic information. You can also find this option in the settings under About & Support

Is my data included in debug logs?

No. Debug logs are anonymized and do not contain song content or personal data.
